Introducing the Heritage Series Classic Medieval Cutting Sword by Windlass! Windlass Steelcrafts® has reintroduced some of our all-time favorites with several upgrades!
The blade has improved distal taper, making the sword livelier and quicker. The scabbard now has a wooden core underneath the leather exterior. The grip features leather that is dimpled using a historically authentic "wet-wrap" process, during which fine cord is tightly wrapped around a wet leather grip. When it's dry, the cord is removed and the leather is left attractively indented and provides improved texture and grip.
Circa 16th Century
The Irish not only developed whiskey, they also developed one of the most distinctive hilt designs of the medieval era. The unique pommel is comprised of a steel ring with the rounded tang tip extended through it, and the guard is arguably more unique. The quillons are gracefully curved into an "S" shape and the guard is gracefully flared, suggesting fins or flippers. Irish geography afforded familiarity with the sea, so our feverish imagination suggests that they were inspired by a mermaid sighting or two (remember the whiskey)?
The blade is deeply fullered to lighten the sword without diminishing its strength. This is the quick, powerful sword that enhanced the Irish reputation as being superb fighting men. The leather that covers the grip and scabbard is dyed a very deep green that it looks almost black in dim light. The scabbard features a metal locket and chape with tastefully ornate cut-outs. Hand forged by Windlass Steelcrafts and comes factory sharp.
