This is a museum-quality reproduction of an antique Japanese helmet and mask armor set. Much like European helmets, Japanese helmets were designed, obviously, to protect the wearer, but also to awe and intimidate. The crests frequently identified the warrior. This armor is more ostentatious than many from the period, painted bright red and topped with real horse hair. The helmet (kabuto) features a grotesque, horned mythical beast crest, and up-curved wing-like projections called fukigaeshi. All sections are constructed of 20 gauge steel and are bound together with cotton thread. The mask (menpo) is adorned with a horse hair mustache and gold-plated teeth. Fully wearable and stoutly made like the original. Includes wooden display stand.
